Doesn't Stand the Test of Time

This vacuum cleaner worked great for 1 1/2 years. Then a small, red piece broke off and the hose will no longer connect to the vacuum. Shark will fix my vacuum cleaner, but I have to find a box large enough and ship to them for a total cost of $20. Not bad, except that I will be without a vacuum cleaner for 2-4 weeks. I have owned other vacuum cleaners (a Hoover for 20 years) and nothing ever broke. I feel there is a flaw with this model and I would not purchase another one again, even though they offered a replacement for $102. I would rather put that money into a vacuum cleaner that is going to last. - Customer Reviews: Rotator Professional Lift-Away

Holy cow!

This vacuum is incredible. We just got this vacuum a few days ago, so this review is only my initial impression. I have never made a purchase of any household appliance that has left me so impressed. Overall, I rated the vacuum a five, but there are some design changes that would make it better to look at. BUT it's a vacuum, so it didn't bother me at all. The material and colors of the vacuum make it look almost like a cheap kid's toy (and almost made me not buy it) but the reviews were so good, so I took a chance. I'm glad I did. Although it looks cheaply made, it seems to be rather solid. All of the pieces snap together perfectly. Also the bin is very easy to empty. The steering control is intuitive and smooth. If you have a number of throw rugs to vacuum, I recommend having a kid stand on the edge of the rug while you vacuum. Otherwise, the suction is so strong that the vacuum tries to suck the rug up off the floor. My previous vacuum was a Dyson and I really liked it. I vacuum everyday and thought it worked beautifully... Then we decided to get another cheaper vacuum for the upstairs. I researched every kind of vacuum and found this one to be popular. Even though I vacuum the house daily, the first time I ran the vacuum in the living room, I picked up a bin full of nastiness. We have two cats, so most of it was hair that I thought the Dyson was picking up. Every room I vacuumed showed the same result! I was shocked and appalled. We have decided to now keep this as our primary vacuum and use the Dyson upstairs. Some of the previous reviews commented that they had trouble picking up kitty litter, but the vacuum did just fine for us. Also, several comments were made about it being top heavy... It is, so you just have to be careful to always make sure it is standing up before letting go of the handle. Finally, The cord is somewhat oddly placed, but that is not a problem, just odd. The minor design flaws are easy to overlook when you see the amazing job it does on the floors. I would highly recommend this to everyone looking for a vacuum - Customer Reviews: Rotator Professional Lift-Away

You just think your carpet is clean!

From NV501. If you will tolerate me while I digress to make a point, you will understand what I have to say. For years, I have prided myself on having a clean house and thought it was. It is not that I am a clean freak but weve worked very hard to have what we have and I wanted to keep the carpet and tile at its best. Then, my husband began coughing to the point he had to have a heart stress test. Everything was negative but the coughing continued. There is no cigarette smoke in our house. So, every other day, to alleviate his incessant coughing, I would dust and vacuum with my upright, well known brand (begins with a K) containing a bag that took two mules and a horse to attach it tightly. Even after I vacuumed, I would have to dust the furniture again and wonder how on earth the dust returned so quickly. Sometimes the bag would stay on the vacuum and other times; all the dust would go inside the bag container. To get rid of the accumulated dust, I would haul the heavy thing outside and blow everything from its nooks and crannies. After several repairs to a wheel that flew down the hallway and cutting my fingers on the bag area, I banned the vacuum cleaner to my garage. That is when I bought my Shark Rotator Lift Away Bagless Upright Vacuum, model NV501. It arrived earlier than its intended arrival time from a Wal-Mart Distributor.

A week before it arrived, I had moved all the furniture in my house, cleaned all the curtains and drapery and vacuumed with my old vacuum cleaner. The house looked clean. Anxious to try the Shark to see if it lived up to its hype, I went to the bedroom and began vacuuming this is one room! When I saw the miniscule particles of dust (so tiny it looked like someone poured a whole container of baby powder on my carpet) and sloughed off body skin (we all do that) I was mortified. What else was in my carpet? Dust mites probably so but not for long! The next day, once again I moved the furniture and did a deep clean on the floors and upholstery. I was aghast. The amount of dirt and dust collected by the Shark NV501 made me sick to my stomach. I couldnt believe all these years my carpeted bedrooms and living room floors contained this much filthy dirt. Believe this or not but I continue to get atomic sized particles from my carpet. However, each time Ive vacuumed since I purchased the Shark, the amount is getting smaller and smaller. I am winning the battle and there is no more coughing.

If you are wondering about the Shark NV501, I can attest it does what it is supposed to do. The head swivels, doesnt lose suction, is easy to maneuver, lightweight, will vacuum deep pile carpet and vinyl, hardwood or tile with a push of a button and the attachments are easy to change. The only thing that I might not like is how you push a tiny area with your foot to engage the handle downward but it is a moot subject. Very little dust is on my furniture and the house smells clean. Am I pushing this Shark NV501 yes, I am and I am not affiliated with any one in the company, have stock in the company or asked to do this review. I am just a very pleased, color me a happy camper doing the Snoopy Dance consumer with this product. - Customer Reviews: Rotator Professional Lift-Away
