Great New Controller

I really like this controller. I had the day 1 version and I really liked it as well, but it annoyed me that I had to buy a stereo adapter for most headsets to work. I thought we had moved past proprietary connections with cell phones, and now we have. That jack is still there, but now you have the option to connect directly via the 3.5 mm jack that has been added.

Additionally the entire feel of the controller has been redesigned. The D-pad has been improved, and the bumpers have a much smoother feel when depressed. A texture has been added to the casing so that it won’t slip out of your hand as easily. Overall it seems like while tweaking the design to make it sleeker, they also improved some known issues.

The connectivity to the Xbox and other devices has been greatly improved with this model, but not without room for further improvement. The wireless range with the Xbox has been doubled for more comfortable play across a large room, and you no longer need to plug into the Xbox via usb to update the controller. Additionally and probably most importantly Bluetooth connectivity has been added to this device, meaning that you now can connect wirelessly to a variety of Bluetooth enabled devices. My laptop does not have Bluetooth I was surprised to learn (thanks HP), but I was able to connect to my Android phone, and amazingly my Amazon Fire stick! My only concern with this function that could be corrected with an update is that it was not a seamless operation switching between paired devices, I needed to completely unpair from the Fire Stick, run downstairs and after several attempts to repair with the Xbox finally reset both and got it.

Overall, this is a very good controller that I believe is worth the investment, even if you have a fully functional controller. The ability to use the same controller on all of your (Bluetooth) devices is a big deal. - Customer Reviews: Xbox Wireless Controller - White

An overall improvement

I bought a launch Xbox One and with it came the default controller. It's been a couple of years now and that controller (along with the play & charge cable I use it with) has performed pretty well for the most part. The Xbox One S controller feels like an overall improvement on an already great controller.

The 3.5 headphone jack should’ve been included with the original controller, I think we can all agree on that. I’ve been enjoying plugging in my headphones to play my xbox games just like I do with my PS4 controllers.

The bluetooth connectivity is an added bonus even if some gamers won’t ever really utilize it to play PC games. It’s a nice option.

The downside is that the controller only comes in white, so it’ll get dirty a lot more easily than the older black colored models. It also feels heavier but at the same time cheaper than the original models. I will say that the textured grip is a nice touch, but I do feel like the S controller is more fragile.

Minor gripes aside however, my new xbox one s controller connected to my launch xbox one model easily and performs really well. No major problems so far, can’t go wrong with this upgrade. - Customer Reviews: Xbox Wireless Controller - White
